New Ways Organization Activities in Education

Education

New Ways Organization works to improve access to relevant, equitable and quality basic education services for children in Somalia and to support safe learning environments where children can learn, achieve and thrive.

Families can face major barriers to enrolling and keeping children in school, including poverty, long distances, safety concerns, social norms that disadvantage girls, shortages of qualified teachers — particularly female teachers — and inadequate sanitation facilities.

Children living with disabilities, internally displaced children, pastoralist communities and minority groups may face additional barriers. Recurrent natural disasters and displacement can also interrupt children's education and make continued attendance difficult.

Other challenges include the cost of education, limited capacity of community and public schools, high student-to-teacher ratios, shortages of textbooks, limited school-governance capacity, insufficient teacher training and inadequate school infrastructure.

New Ways Organization's education priority is to improve access to relevant and equitable basic education services while strengthening the conditions needed for safe, inclusive and effective learning.
